Beach Clean-up a huge success!

Sunday 1st November, and the weather was perfect! We had a great turn out and 47 divers with lots of families and friends, took time out of their weekend to help us clean up the reef at Browns Bay!

His Worship the Mayor of North Shore City, Andrew Williams very kindly came and opened the day for us, and after his speech and the group photo was taken, off we went to collect rubbish from the reef.

And boy were we needed! Included in the booty of underwater treasures were 15 anchors (these will be cleaned up, sold and the money donated to Project Aware), around 30 old glass bottles, two complete fishing rods/reels, and even part of a boat!

And the beach itself wasn't forgotten either, 15 bags of rubbish were collected by our non-diving volunteers from the beach and park! Almost 200kg of rubbish was removed from the environment, so thank you so much, to all those that participated.

A big thank you to Paul at dive planet for his very hard work, as well as the very kind help from the Browns Bay Boating Club and Coastgaurd in Browns Bay, and the many sponsors of prizes and giveaways we had on the day.

Summer is here and so is Scallop Season!!

Well, it has been an unusually windy spring, but summer is here! Last year was one of the best Scallop seasons for years, and the season is now open! It runs September 1st to March 31st each year (in the Auckland - North area), so get out there and get some Scallops!!
